We clean roofs right across Redcar, from Dormanstown out to Kirkleatham, and moss grows on old and new roofs alike. Shaded, damp tiles stay wet for longer, and once moss gets a grip it holds water, creeps under the tile edges and drops clumps into your gutters.
We take the moss off by hand, carefully and with no pressure washing, then apply a biocide treatment to kill off the spores left behind. Any moss that falls into the gutters while we work is cleared out before we leave.

It's just not our preferred method for roofs. Removing moss by hand and treating with biocide gets the thick growth off and keeps working on what's left after we've gone.
Look for thick cushions of moss along the tile edges, clumps landing on your path or in the garden, or gutters overflowing after rain. If you can see the moss from the street, it's usually time.
The biocide keeps working after we've gone and slows regrowth down considerably. How long it lasts depends on shade and exposure, but it's far longer than simply scraping the moss off.
